| Welcome |
Welcome to the Software and Systems Engineering (SSE) web page.
The activities of the SSE Group are currently organized in three laboratories (Lab. Dependable Systems, Lab. Data Management, and Lab. Distributed and Parallel Systems) with a natural overlap among the research activities of each lab.
Research on dependability is mainly focused on experimental dependability evaluation, using software fault injection as core enabling technology. Dependability and security benchmarking in large database and web based systems is also an important focus of the research of the SSE Group on dependability.
Component based software development issues, namely experimental risk assessment and component reutilization techniques, and software verification and validation are another set of research topics of the group.
The SSE Group is also highly involved in research on management in heterogeneous parallel and distributed environments, with emphasis on performance and quality of service, dependable grids, and autonomic computing. Partitioning techniques for data warehouse distribution in large clusters of simple machines and complex event processing (CEP) systems are two recent research topics.
A close cooperation with the DEI/CISUC spin-off companies is another key priority for the group, especially in what concerns to spin-off companies that have been created by researchers or former researchers from the Group, such as Critical Software and Wit Software. |
